Effective January 1, 2018, sales tax rates for many municipalities located within Illinois will increase!
Please update your cash registers and computer systems to account for the change. Make sure your sales staff knows to adjust their quotes for the change in rates if materials are going to be purchased or delivered after January 1, 2018.
Nearby municipalities that have increased their rates are Phoenix-Cook County (+1.00%), Riverside-Cook County inside Harlem Avenue Business District 1 (+1.00%), Thornton-Cook County (+0.50%), Woodstock-McHenry County (+1.00%), Fox Lake-Lake County inside both the Central Business District and the South Business District (+1.00%), and New Lenox-Will County (+0.50%).
Other municipalities in Christian, Ogle, Rock Island, Jefferson, St. Clair, Fayette, Madison, and Sangamon Counties have also changed their rates. Keep in mind, if you receive reseller certificate forms from your customers (CRT-61) www.tax.illinois.gov/TaxForms/Sales/CRT-61.pdf, it is your responsibility to verify that their IBT number is valid.
