
Porte Brown is pleased to announce that Mark Gallegos, CPA, MST, Tax Partner, has been appointed to the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) Board of Directors for a three-year term running April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2029.
The Illinois CPA Society is one of the largest state CPA societies in the nation, representing more than 20,000 accounting and finance professionals across public accounting, business and industry, government, nonprofit organizations, and academia. The Board of Directors serves as the governing body of the organization and helps guide the Society’s strategic direction, financial oversight, and professional initiatives that support the CPA profession across Illinois.
As a member of the Board, Gallegos will help represent the interests of ICPAS members while supporting initiatives focused on professional education, leadership development, advocacy, and the continued advancement of the accounting profession.
Gallegos is a Tax Partner at Porte Brown LLC, where he advises businesses and individuals on complex tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions, tax policy and legislation, and international tax. With more than 20 years of experience, he is widely recognized for translating complex tax laws and regulatory developments into practical strategies that help clients, business leaders, and fellow professionals navigate an increasingly complex tax landscape.
In addition to his client advisory work, Gallegos is an active leader within the accounting profession. He currently serves on the AICPA Tax Practice Management Committee and the AICPA Strategic Tax Reform Advisory Group, where he contributes to discussions and initiatives surrounding federal tax policy and legislative developments. He is also the conference planning co-chair for the Tax Strategies track at the AICPA ENGAGE Conference, one of the profession’s largest annual gatherings.
Gallegos also hosts the “Tax News Now” podcast for Becker, where he interviews accounting professionals and industry leaders on emerging tax developments impacting practitioners and businesses.
Gallegos is a frequent national speaker and writer, regularly delivering presentations and webinars on tax legislation, policy developments, and practice management strategies. His insights have been featured in leading media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, USA Today, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, FOX News, ABC News and The Tax Adviser, among others.
In recognition of his contributions to the profession, Gallegos was recently named to the Forbes 2025 America’s Top CPAs list and received the Illinois CPA Society Distinguished Service Award - Media Expert.

Gallegos holds a Master of Science in Taxation from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Kentucky.
